Do online pregnancy test scans work?

Now, the big question:  Do they really work?  The answer – it cannot give you an accurate result to determine whether or not you’re pregnant.

The best thing you can do is to go to your doctor and have the medical tests necessary to find out if you’re really pregnant.

Online pregnancy test: what kind of info does it ask?

If you’ve missed your period and you’re now thinking that you may be pregnant, you might want to take a pregnancy scan online wherein a few possible questions include,

  • What’s your age?
  • What’s your menstrual cycle? Do you have a regular or an irregular monthly period?
  • When did you have your last unprotected intercourse?

Some online pregnancy quizzes may also include questions on pregnancy symptoms, such as…

  • A backache
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue
  • Food cravings
  • Lightheadedness
  • Bloating
  • Breast soreness or swelling

A few of these pregnancy tests online may ask questions about the contraceptives you’re using or your stress level.  There are many of these tests online, and some of these tests may ask detailed questions but others just vague ones.

What are the types of online pregnancy tests?

Various types of pregnancy tests are online, but as said, you should not rely on them solely to confirm pregnancy.

You should also remember that those exams conducting a body scan and then telling you the gender of a baby and his/her father are only meant for entertainment.  They’re not to be taken seriously. But still, you might want to try these online pregnancy tests for fun purposes.

Should you rely on online pregnancy test scans?

These online pregnancy test scans will tell you whether you’re pregnant or not.  Others will give you simple calculations according to the answers you have given.

You should not rely on these test scans to confirm that you are pregnant or not.

Remember that the results are only a calculation of probability.  In short, the result is only what is probable or possible.

These pregnancy quizzes are not to be used to replace the real pregnancy test done by a medical practitioner. In short, these online quizzes cannot give you an accurate result. It is best that you take an actual urine or blood test that will be able to detect the presence of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG).

What is hCG? It is the pregnancy hormone produced by cells formed in your placenta when you’re pregnant.  The placenta nourishes the egg after fertilization and attaches to the uterine wall.

When is an hCG level detectable?  It can be detected by a urine test in about 12 to 14 days after conception and 11 days if taking a blood test.  Then, its level will go twice higher every two to three days or 48-72 hours in 85% of normal pregnancies.    During the 8 to 11 weeks of pregnancy, hCG levels will reach its highest peak before declining for the entire duration of the pregnancy.

What to do if you got a positive pregnancy result from an online test?

You might want to follow up with a home pregnancy test kit, which claims to detect pregnancy before the next menstrual period.  It is quite accurate in detecting pregnancies.

If the result is negative

If the result is negative, then you should wait for at least a week after you’re expecting your menstruation. You should perform another home pregnancy test or fertility monitors to find out if you’re pregnant or not. And to confirm, you should visit your doctor for a urine or blood tests to find out if you’re pregnant or not.

Final Thoughts

By now, you probably know the answer to the question, “Do online pregnancy test scans work?” So again, do not rely on these tests alone when trying to figure out whether or not you’re pregnant.  Your doctor is still the best source to confirm it by conducting a blood or urine test. If you cannot help but really be eager to know, try a home pregnancy test. Whatever result you got from it, still visit your doctor for confirmation.
